In From The Cold

This is a 16″x20″ mixed media painting on canvas. The sides are 3″ deep. SOLD

I love barkcloth. It is so beautiful. The patterns from the forties are my favorite. Tropical florals in pink and gray, Big blue hydrangeas, huge feathery ferns .

The coat that the little girl is wearing is also vintage. Doesn’t she look like she is a good little soldier? Standing to attention, seen and not heard, like children were so often expected to be back then. As I sit around the dinner table each night and listen to what my girls have to say about the day I feel sad for all those little soldiers that weren’t allowed to express themselves to their beloveds. If you can’t tell your beloveds how you are feeling, then who? Obviously, I wasn’t one of these children, it was fairly chatty around our dinner table. We are a fairly chatty bunch.

Also, I thought the juxtaposition of the child bundled up in her hat and coat against the wallpaper in full bloom was kind of funny and kind of where I am at right now. It has turned cold again and I want so desperately to come in from the cold.

I tried to cancel but it would not let me. I really must proof read before I post!
It should say ” I love to see the girl in the coat appearing again, this time with flowers” etc…
My excuse is the phone rang and I tried to send it before I answered!!!
