Febuary Give Away!

OK, time to pick what this month’s OOAK reproduction give away will be! I have decided to go with this one titled ‘LOVE’…

…. and speaking of love, what candy do you love or have loved? Do you have a trashy favorite? A guilty pleasure?
I thought about this topic yesterday and then, lo and behold, someone asked Justin Bieber the same question and I knew, this had to be synchronicity. The clincher was that he mentioned MY guilty pleasure … I love bigfoot candies.

I know, not really classy but if the Biebster likes them how wrong can I be? (Don’t answer that).
My other favorite , maple sugar candies… I have always had a weakness for them ever since I was a kid.

Two more, white bon bon’s and licorice and sherbet from the British candy shop. (The Brit’s have great candy, let’s face it).

So tell me your candy secret, you could win this 5″x7″ reproduction if you do ….
as usual, the draw will be at the end of this short month.
(Hopefully I won’t put on 10 pounds because I know that I will be tempted to try all of your delicious candy picks!)

I love, love, love dark chocolate. You can talk to me while I am experiencing it but I will not hear you because every fiber of my being is targeted to the texture, flavor and aroma of the chocolate. I won’t see you either because my eyes are closed so there will be no visual distractions. It is complete pleasure.

This month’s “LOVE” painting has all the colors, textures and mood of just how it feels to be eating dark chocolate. Visually delicious – in my favorite colors! Send me this painting and I will cherish it. All the Best — Julia P.

  5. Aniseed balls rate as my all time favourite sweet – I used to eat them by the bagful when I was younger – don’t see them around much now though.

Another delightful painting – hope I’m in with a chance this time.

I can’t start my day without dark chocolate (70% +)….organic Zazubean chocolate bars!

Remember those little heart shaped red-hot cinnamon candies? They were my favorite, as a kid…along with those little packets of tiny squares of licorice called Sen Sens.

    I love “Love”!

  9. You silly girl! I’ve never heard of any of these! How can that be?? I can no longer find them – although I’m thinking they are still sold in the mid-west – Cherry Mash candy ball What I can find is way too available – marsh mellows! But I have to say, I CAN NOT GO TO ST. AUGUSTINE without getting PRALINES from the candy store there! Oh My Goodness! And the smell of cooking butter & sugar in the store is intoxicating – I’m getting crazy just thinking about that aroma! The bad news is – I only live 30 miles from there! Now, for a chance at one of your beautiful paintings – another SWEET PLEASURE!

  10. YUM!
I knew this was a bad idea …
but I don’t consider dark chocolate a guilty pleasure, isn’t it part of The Food Guide Pyramid? I am pretty sure you are supposed to have at least one serving a day.
Oh, and it is really important that you wash it down with a glass of red wine. I’m sure that I read somewhere that it was dangerous not to …

I love this Love painting! It’s another of my favorites and I also love Mars bars and Bournville PLAIN chocolate. This has been a long standing love affair starting when I was pregnant with Chris. I don’t think Bournville Plain chocolate in it’s dark red wrapper exists any more but it was the only DARK Chocolate back then.

    February 3, 2011 at 5:53 pm

    • Hilary I have a friend that loves this too. And you cab still get it. The wrapper is beautiful. Perfect, simple, red.

this is a tough one since I have such a sweet tooth…the top three would have to be mini eggs(so glad they are available all year round!), crunchie(or just plain sponge toffee) and of course cotton candy(esp. when in Disneyland!!!). If I had to sneak in another one it would be nougat w/almonds!

Always looking forward to all your new pieces. Great work!

I have to admit my favorite is dark chocolate almond clusters from See’s Candies. I don’t know if you have See’s in Canada but they are wonderful. When I was younger my wonderful husband would by me 8 lbs of it at Christmas…and I would EAT ALL 8 lbs. not in one sitting mind you. but I enjoyed every last piece.

  27. York peppermint patties … I like “expensive” chocolate, but not a lot, which is a good thing. I also like making peppermint meringues out of peppermint hard candies. Yummy, and no fat. Sugar, yes, fat, no.

wowie zowie! I just stumbled across your blog. You have such a lovely way of creating this distinct atmosphere in all your paintings. It’s otherworldly! I’d have to say my favorite candy fascination right now are these peculiar asian candies I discovered in china town called White Rabbits. They’re chewy, creamy, wrapped in rice paper and mysteriously delicious. You can find them at any oriental super market. Check em out!

Your newest paintings are simply amazing. Am so glad you didn’t listen to the nay sayers and decided to make art. You are inspiring! Am not too into candy. When I want something sweet I really love a spoonful of honey. Especially if it is on top of some peanut butter. With some rich vanilla coconut milk to drink. Yum!

Hi Maria….. Every morning as a walk through my yard I look for cardinals and think of you. Today I stopped and stared…… there were 9 cardinals on a smaller tree in my back yard. I couldn’t help thinking to myself that you would have loved to have seen it!! Hope you and the family are well!

I love Maple Candy, but it’s so darn expensive. Twizzlers however are cheap and plentiful and delicious.

Chocolate. Almost any kind except white chocolate. Aero bars, toblerone. I love the exquisite chocolates from Sweet lollapalooza and hedgehogs from Purdy’s and the hot chocolate from any of the following places: Sweet Lollapalooza, Kirstens or Choklat (in Calgary).
