July Give Away X 2 …And Me, As Homework

Well, you may have noticed that I did not do the give away last month. The Postal Strike/Lock Out had me a little on edge and by the time it ended, well, it was July so, this month I am going to have two winners.   TWO  WINNERS!

I decided to pick “Water Lilies Keep Me Cool” because this is the time for long hot summer days, when a cool dip in the lake would be more than a little inviting, right? You would think! But this year, it has been long rainy days, flooding basements and mosquitoes in swarms!  So maybe I am not thinking about water lilies to keep me cool but I wouldn’t mind if the dragon-fly featured in this painting gathered up several hundred of his best buds and ate all the mosquitoes that buzz around me daily as I make a bee line from the  house to  the car.

So, you know the drill. Write me a comment about your long lazy summer days. Go ahead make me jealous, I don’t care. Maybe I will live vicariously through your posts, maybe your weather is worse than mine (but I doubt that is possible). And at the end of the month, I will  draw TWO winners for a 3″x4″ fine at reproduction of  the above image. (These blocks are available on Etsy and at The Art Gallery Of Albert gift shop.)

So, guess what? I am homework. Yes, HOMEWORK. Several times now, over the last couple of years, I have had requests for my ‘bio’ from school children in the UK. They have told me that they are doing a report on me (I know, ha,ha, it just makes me giggle). Anyway, it is awesome and I thought I would share  the image that Nicole did for her school report. I am sure that you will agree it is very well executed and is a very beautiful piece of art in its own right.

Thanks so much, Nicole, you did a great job! If I was your teacher, I would give you an A+. Keep drawing!

  1. I love your Water Lilies piece so much! It is dreadfully hot and humid here in North Carolina. The only thing I’m enjoying about this summer is my pond of water lilies and koi.

    • Oh, that sounds beautiful! You should send me photos! (the water lilies and the koi NOT the hot and the humid!)
      Good luck,

I cannot give you any peace with what is going on here in Texas. Temps of over 100 for a long while now and no rain. I do have a tranquil view from my kitchen nook with my beautiful windmill art in the backyard turning round and round. The water lilies are very cool.

I live on the Frenchriver, which is south of Sudbury Ontario. So far our summers have been HOT and sunny. The front window looks out at the beach and river, I’d have to say my favorite part of the hot summer day is when we take a break from the heat and we lay on my bed, the breeze comes through the open window and I love to see the white lace curtain blowing with the breeze, Yesterday after supper my 8yr old son went fishing with his uncle ,and my husband and I took my 6yr old out on the boat pulling her on the tube, we stopped in the middle of the lake and then Olivia jumped into the water for a swim! The sun was setting and the colours in the sky were changing , What a night!

Our lazy days of summer don’t feel very lazy, with 3 little girls on the go to the beach, pool, art camp … but alas they are much gentler days with few scheduled classes etc. We recently bought a vintage Boler camper and travelled down to Colorado – what a hoot to live in 17 feet – it makes you realize how little you really need! Happy Summer, Jen

So far we have had a classic Swedish summer; one day hot hot with lot of sun, the next day sun and clouds and pretty warm just for the third day to have lots and lots of rain and thunder.
But for me this works just fine because one day you can relax in the sunshine by the water and the nice breeze with something tasty and cold to drink, the next day you can go sightseeing and the third day you can do some well needed work at home.
Have a great summer all of you :o)

My summer is unfortunately more hectic that I’d like. My favorite days are when we go camping and I am able to sit by a stream and read a book.

Alabama is very hot but for the last few weeks we have been getting thunderstorms and

rain most afternoons which cools things off some and brings a lovely rainbow. I think my

very favorite place to view them is from the car with the air on and the grandchildren in back ooing and ahing and pointing them out to each other.

  11. You know what my days are like. They are long and hopeful as I wait for summer to actually arrive. *SIGH*

NICOLE, A+++ What a lovely painting. And let me tell you that you have chosen a subject worthy of your admiration. The process of Maria’s paintings are where the truth wealth lies. Her paintings are a refelction of herself and her passion to create is a true inspiration. I hope that you too enjoyed the process of creating as much as you and your family will enjoy the product. Blessings!

  12. Hi Maria
As you know we are finally having “summer”… warm breezes, those azure blue Alberta skies (finally cloudless!), hot sun and no mosquitoes. Since I met you at the ArtWalk I’ve been prepping to return to work after a lovely, lengthy leave (more mental than anything), blogging, reading, process painting, having coffee with girlfriends I’ve haven’t seen since my travels. It’s been a quiet, reflective time…the weather conspiring to give me the cocoon to transition back into life here, now. I’m enjoying reading the other comments from around the world…wonderful.
I’m closing in on your “giveaway” deadline…I love the lanquid feel of this painting.
