The colours in this piece are inspired by our amazing visit to The Happy Valley Lavender and Herb Farm  on Vancouver island.  What an amazing place to dream and breathe in delicious floral smells of lavender and sweet peas (to name only two).   You must go visit this magical place!

Grow With The Calm Of A Tree

16″ x20″ mixed media painting on wood. SOLD

Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.

Dale Carnegie

I am guilty of this. I wish I was better at living in the moment but it is something that I have to continually work on. I  often feel it is my life lesson.  I am constantly making myself stop and look. Really look. Really see what is around me. Not what was around me or what is going to be around me. What am I experience right this moment.  As they say,  “stop and smell the roses”. Perhaps this painting will remind me, and you,  to do just that.

“Gardens are not made by singing ‘Oh, how beautiful!’ and sitting in the shade.”
― Rudyard Kipling,

Growing up is hard work.

Peter Pan didn’t want to do  it and either does Imogen. She really is not happy with how things are changing. Yes, she would like more freedom, a later bedtime and to never wear braids again but at the same time she wants to remain a child. She is not boy crazy and is often annoyed by the girls in her class that are. She would rather be friends with the boys.  All of these hormones are cramping her style. She often expresses her frustration with not being able to change these things. I feel for her and try to listen with compassion. I know she will emerge from all this but I also know that her growing pains will continue … heck, they never really stop do they?
