Saw these on my morning walk the other day.  Those colours together! Who would not want to paint them?! I wish I could grow poppies. The irony is not lost on me,  it is the flower I paint the most but it will NOT take seed in my garden.

Stubborn old lovely poppy, you take my breath away.

Today on my morning walk, I met a man with a pet crow.  This lovely little girl named Funny, had knocked out of her nest during a storm and Magpies had attacked her. She had very little wings left and no tail feathers but she was beautiful non the less.  She was so playful and vocal with her owner, making all sorts of different calls to him and even chuckling when he mentioned how much she liked to laugh.  When I asked him what she ate, she understood every word he said as he listed off her favourite foods.  So SMART!  I feel so blessed to have got to witness one of these amazing creatures up close.

One just 9,

One almost 12

Still so close but I see a split starting to appear

One is going to take those feathers and fly away

Not far

And Not forever

But I suspect I will see some heartache in the near future

When a little warrior is left behind

It can’t be easy

I am so proud of Imogen. She has graduated grade six and  is on her way to junior high school next year. It is an exciting time for her.  She is such a deep girl. She always has been. She thinks about so much and on so many levels.  She is a bit of a sad soul.  I feel guilty about that, her melancholy is also mine. When she was little, you could not even sing “My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean” because it would send her into utter despair. This is when she was really little, like one.  To this day, she will not watch any movie with an animal in it (live action) because she doesn’t want to take the chance of it being sad. “Animal movies are always sad” she says.  I try to explain that we have to have the sadness to balance out the happiness but she will have none of it. She will avoid the sadness at all costs if at all possible.   ET was a disaster that I wish I could take back. We never finished Waterhorse and believe me, Old Yeller will not be viewed anywhere near this house.

Imogen is also a worrier.  (Guilty as charged.)  She often worries about school projects and tests but she also worries about her fellow classmates.  Let’s face it, not all kids have parents that deserve them and I think that Imogen is just starting to notice this first hand.  It is hard for her to imagine a parent that is not willing to celebrate their child’s final elementary performance, but it seems impossible for her to imagine them  being verbally abused or worse.  She feels such empathy for these students. I hope this never changes in her, it is painful for her but it is such a beautiful gift  that she has.   She could change the world with the amount of compassion she has for her fellow humans and I have little  doubt that she will.

The heart is the best reflective thinker.
