“You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”

– From “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by  Dr. Seuss

Walking Through Wonderland

Walking-Through-Wonderland

walking through wonderland side 1Walking Through Wonderland side 2Walking Through Wonderland topin progress18″x36″ mixed media painting on canvas. The sides are a continuum of the painting and are 3″ deep.  The first and last photos ( top and in progress shot) show the truest colour. I had great difficulty documenting this one as I am using a different camera than I am used to.

While I was painting this one I couldn’t help but think about Alice In Wonderland.  It feels to me like she absconded with the Mad Hatter’s Hat and is just now really looking around at her beautiful surroundings.  Maybe the hat helped her stop and really take in the beauty of this wonder of this new  land she is visiting.   It  seems to me, Alice did spend most of her time exasperated with others in Wonderland and maybe for good reason, their ridiculousness could be grating on anyone.  However, perhaps if she had stopped chasing the white rabbit long enough to smell the roses, she would have enjoyed her time  in Wonderland a little more.  It is called Wonderland after all.

NOTE TO SELF:  I need to steal the Mad Hatter’s Top Hat.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
