This painting is about how your dreams can sometimes become a burden. They can weigh heavy on us if we are consumed with self doubts and fear that we may never be able to accomplish them. I watch my 14 year old go through this daily and it hurts me to my soul but I also remember feeling like she does. It is ironic because I have been such a ‘dream advocate’ her whole life. Protecting her from the ‘realists’ of the world and telling her to dream big. The irony, it’s not the outside world that is tormenting her but her inner dialogue is beating those dreams out of her. Here is the thing, there is always going to be more talented people around you. The secret is finding your own authentic talent, your genius, and pushing it to the limit. That is where you will find strength and power. You can’t discover someone else’s genius, it doesn’t work like that. It took me until I was 40 to really discover that, I just pray it doesn’t take her that long.
“Life is not about discovering our talents; it is about pushing our talents to the limit and discovering our genius.” — Robert Brault
