“It is a happiness to wonder; — it is a happiness to dream.”
― Edgar Allan Poe, Complete Stories and Poems

I remember when I was first able to call myself beloved, I was actually going through a divorce.  I emerged from those dark days full of wonder. Everything around me seemed new and beautiful. Why had I not seen how beautiful everything was? It wasn’t different, but I was. I was happy.  Generally when we are in a happy state, we can find wonder so easily, we trip over it, it cannot be missed.  It is the dark days that seem to blanket our wonder and our dreams. Not unlike finding inspiration in our work by working, we have to find wonder in the world by purposefully wondering.  It is a struggle but the old saying  ‘you have to help yourself to be helped’ can be applied here.  We can kickstart wonder, but often it requires a self inflicted kick-in-the-butt.

Go forth and wonder ❤

Best,

Maria

Peony Dreams

It is so hot here today! If encaustic paint could drip right off of a painting, it would today. (It can’t, unless of course your house is one fire, and in that case, GET OUT!)  Anyway, I am happy with this one and I really love the blue vase with the little bird and bleeding hearts.  This painting is full of love and dreams to me because I have filled it with all of my favourites and yellow, yellow, yellow and even mica flakes on the butterflies to boot!

The Light From Within

Nothing dims the light from within –  Maya Angelou

I love the sentiment of this quote.  The light from within is an amazing thing but I do think that it can be hard to see sometimes, it can be turned down or, heaven forbid, turned off completely. We are responsible in protecting our light and we have to be responsible in protecting our children’s light as well. The stronger we can keep that light a glow during their youth, the better chance they have in keeping it lit themselves.  Love is the best conductor… love, love, love. We are nothing without it. We all need it to grow and find our light from within. It is everything.

It is so hard to document these long thin ones, the photo does not show the detail. These paintings look so good hanging in “in-between”  spaces. There is never enough wall space or windows is there?

I’ve never done a Magnolia flower slice so I thought I’d try one out. I love Magnolias and miss seeing them every spring. The flowers are so wax like that they work well in encaustic. There are lots of sparkles and iridescent blues in this one that is hard to see in the photo.

Also available in my Etsy shop, Peace In The Moment. Available in ACEO format and as a 12″ x 16″ OOAK Limited Edition  Embellished and Mounted Reproduction

(20% off until May 13)

Don’t Fight Your Heart

6″x14″ mixed media painting on rag paper.

This painting is available HERE

One of the greatest skills that we can teach our children is to listen to their heart. My girls have such good hearts, I hope that they never stop listening to the internal voice. We are often led astray by not going with our gut or doing something that doesn’t feel right, especially as young people. We give into peer pressure. This can become a bad habit as we get older. Listen to your heart, pay attention, don’t fight it, I promise, it won’t steer you wrong.
