Don’t Forget Your Mamma!

photo

It’s mother’s day this Sunday and I am here, reminding you, that she wants one of my paintings soooo bad.

I know this because she was in the gallery shop just the other day, and she told me … OK, OK …. maybe it wasn’t your Mother, but it was someone’s Mother, and she stated just that. She said,  quite forcefully I may add, that she would … what were her exact words? … that she would “love to get one of these (my paintings) for Mother’s day”.

So, I feel that it is my duty to share this little bit of info with you because,  after all, you want to make your Mamma happy, don’t you?  And this just may have been your Mother, we will never really know.

So …. why take the chance of disappointing her. Just give her one of  my paintings and ensure what you have known all along. YOU. ARE. HER. FAVOURITE*, and now you always will be . END. OF. STORY.

BALANCE

The beginning of this year, in the middle of the coldest most miserable winter, I slipped and fell…twice…once backward and once forward.  I have never really been that steady on my feet. I often watch other people in amazement as they seem to navigate icy paths with no trouble at all and in the most inappropriate shoes.  Not me.  I really have to be careful or I will wipe out.

Ever since then I have felt less and less in balance. Both mentally and physically. I am not sure if this is just a coincidence.   If I was to think back on 2011 I would defintely say that it was my year of being out of balance. Nothing in my life seems to be balanced properly. Food, exercise, the kids, my art … MY HOUSE…eek.   I have to be honest writing about this is not making me feel better.  That icky feeling has followed me all year and has got progressively worse.

I thought that my children going back to school and having so much more time on my hands would help but I continue to try to find my balance.  I think that balance is the truly the key to happiness. I have felt balance but it is fleeting. It seems, as I straighten up and find myself steady something else is dropped on my head or the spot that I have placed my feet becomes uneven and wobbly.

I have bought some snow boots with excellent traction and I hope that this help.  Maybe staying steady on on my feet  will help me find balance in the rest of my life. It can’t hurt, right?

Red Road Design Interview
Recently, I had the pleasure to do an interview with Jay from Red Road Design.  Please check it out and then take a look at her beautiful blog.

1.

a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight amount, etc.
2.

something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.
3.

mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.
4.

a state of bodily equilibrium: He lost his balance and fell down the stairs.
5.

an instrument for determining weight, typically by the equilibrium of a bar with a fulcrum at the center, from each end of which is suspended a scale or pan, one holding an object of known weight, and the other holding the object to be weighed.

Lost In Your Dreams ( A Work In Progress)

This is a 18″x14″  mixed media painting in wood. The sides are 1.5″ deep and are painted red.

This painting is SOLD

This painting is not a work in progress. It is complete. Our subject, however,  just may be a work in progress, just as we all are. Living our lives on a day-to-day to basis. Doing the best we can.

I had a lot of things going around my head as I painted this one.  I was thinking about how when we are young, we sometimes give up our authentic selves  in order to be accepted in a group, or perhaps by a love interest. Sometimes we try so hard to become  what we feel we need to be,  we totally lose sight of who we really are. We try to blend in, to fit, to please, not realizing that, being untrue to who we really are will never lead to happiness.

As a mother of two young girls, intellectually,  I realize that helping my children to have self-confidence and self-respect is crucial.  Emotionally, however, I find it difficult when they question everything that I tell them  and make choices that I would  not make.  If I don’t let them make their own choices about these small things at this young age, how are they going to have the skills to make good descion when the stake are higher?  If I expect them to bend to my way, all of the time, why would I expect that they wouldn’t   bend to other people as well?

It is like walking a tightrope, trying to raise children that are considerate and respectful but also have their own ideas and purpose.

These are the titles that I wrote down as I painted this one:

Falling Into You

Becoming You

Becoming Me

I Become You

You Become Me

Blending In

Falling Into Me

Lost In Your Dreams

Lost In You

Don’t Forget You

Awaking Dreams
