My dreams are just

there
In sight
Yet
slightly different than I imagined
Maybe better

I can see them
Like my breath
on the coldest day

Beautiful

Deep In The Night Garden

This is a 10″x10″ mixed media painting in wood. The sides are 1″ and are painted red.
This painting is $110 and SOLD
The day before yesterday, Turner Classic Movies played ‘Pride And Prejudice’ starring Greer Garson. I couldn’t take my eyes of the HATS! They were all so elaborate but what really struck me was the amazing black and white Tim Burton stripes! They were a delight to my senses and I just had to paint one of these divinely beautiful ‘stripey’ hats!

This is what I was thinking as I did this painting:

Deep In The Night Garden

She thinks so deeply for someone so young
The world’s troubles painfully worn behind her eyes
She would rather walk in the air of the night garden, her eyes wide open
Than be tucked in bed, her eyes shut tight
Asleep, she can no longer control where her mind wanders
Asleep, she must go where her dreams take her
Not where she dreams to be taken
She would prefer to walk deep into the night garden
Eyes wide open

I think I am starting to believe her.

She really is looking more comfortable in her own skin.

Kind of like me.

To Call Myself Beloved

I have decided that this will be the title of my new show. It is a line from the Raymond Carver poem ‘Late Fragment’

Late Fragment

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.

I relate to this poem in so many ways, as I am sure that you all do as well.

I can definitely call myself beloved. Beloved, always, by my parents, beloved by my husband and children.
The one thing that I haven’t always been able to say is ‘beloved by myself’. To love myself enough to create. To love myself enough to allow those negative voices to dissolve away and become insignificant whispers. The greatest gift I could ever have allowed myself. To be whole. To stop wondering what if ? To stop dreaming and start doing.
I am so happy that I now can call myself beloved. I am grateful every single day.

IF ‘Clandestine’ – Now That I Have Your Attention

The Clandestine Meeting

Now that I have your attention

The meeting will now begin

What do two white ravens need to discuss?

They would like it to be noted in the records

They are not albino

They simply have some type of mutant gene

They like that they are symbolic of peace

And they really like the gold sequins on your hat

That is all

The meeting can now be adjourned

The Cardinal’s song

the-cardinals-song

“Cheer, cheer, cheer,

whoit, whoit, whoit, whoit,

chip”

I hear you welcoming winter

I welcome it too

It’s soft feathery flakes

Tickle my nose and cheeks

They gently land on my eyelashes

Cardinal, you are so red against the crisp white snow,

Like a  winter berry

A Christmas bird

My favorite time of year

Winter is on its way and I am trying my hardest at being positive.

This is a 11.5″x15.5″ mixed media painting on paper.

Opinion – Illustration Friday – I Talked To A Crow Today

i-talked-to-a-crow-todaysm

I never met a crow that didn’t have an opinion about one thing or another!

This is a piece I did earlier this year.

The following poem accompanies it.

I talked to a crow today,

or rather, he talked to me.

I’m not sure what he was going on about

but he did go on and on and on.

I talked to a crow today,

he had an awful lot to say.

“Mr. Crow,” I said politely, ” will you please let me get a word in?”

But he wasn’t even listening.

He went on and on and on.

That is the way it is with crows,

and sometimes with people too.

Not really interested in conversing,

but rather in the sound of their own voice.

I listened to a crow today,

he went on and on and on.

My Red Guitar

I love my red guitar
It almost looks juicy
I could just eat it up
It makes sweet music
That fills me up
It makes me feel happy
It makes me feel content

Eating Watermelon In The Backyard

I eat my watermelon slice sitting under the apple tree

Sorry birdie

No seeds

The watermelon is so good

Sweet and cold

Juice dribbles down my chin

I squeal with delight

This an original mixed media piece on 100% rag paper.
